Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy were created by John Gruelle. Raggedy Ann was created in 1915 for his daughter Marcella using a hand made rag doll. In 1918 the first written stories starring Raggedy Ann appeared. Raggedy Andy first appeared in 1920. Since that time there have been numerous books starring them as well as short and long movies and cartoons and even a television series. In 2002, Raggedy Ann was inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame.
With their distinctive red yarn hair and simple facial features, Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy have entertained children for almost 90 years.
