Scooters for Children

Non motorized scooters for children are fun and a great way to get exercise. Non motorized scooters are also known as push scooters or kick scooters. Push scooters are available for preschool thru adult in a variety of styles. A scooter board is a related item. Scooter boards are great and are particularly helpful in child with motor skill issues. Please see Scooter Boards for additional information.

Motorized scooters such as gas powered scooters and electric scooters are only recommended for older children and adults. Many adults find electric and gas scooters a convenient mode of transportation. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends that children under 12 not ride motorized scooters and most manufacturers have a recommended minimum age of 16. No matter which scooter you choose it is important to follow safety guidelines. The CPSC recommends the use of a properly fitting bicycle helmet, elbow pads and knee pads. Review the local laws and regulations for your area and be sure your child is aware how to safely ride and operate their scooter. Proper training, proper safety equipment and obeying local laws will make riding scooters fun.

In addition to protective gear such as helmets, elbow pads and knee pads, scooter accessories are available. Items such as lights, computer kits, seats, mirrors  and other scooter accessories allow you to personalize your scooter. Whether buying a push scooter or a gas or electric scooter be sure it is age appropriate. It is also important to be sure proper scooter protective gear is available and worn at all times.
